IMAT 2024 · Question 18

Q18 - Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells

The presence of intercellular compartmentalisation is a characteristic of which organisms? A) Of eukaryotes B) Of prokaryotes C) Of viruses D) Of bacteria E) Only of algae
Pinned

The correct answer is A) Of eukaryotes.

The question says "intercellular" but it means intracellular: membrane-bound compartments inside the cell. Only eukaryotes have them (nucleus, mitochondria, ER, Golgi and so on).

Bacteria are prokaryotes and viruses aren't cells. Algae are eukaryotes, but so are plants, animals and fungi, so "only algae" doesn't work.
