About the IMAT past papers

The official IMAT papers are the closest thing to the real exam: the same format, the same syllabus and the same difficulty. Every paper has 60 multiple-choice questions with five options each, to be answered in 100 minutes, and is scored out of 90.

Each paper above has its own page with the official PDF, the number of questions in each section, the full answer key, ten worked solutions and a summary of that year's cut-off scores. Every question of the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 papers also has its own discussion in the forum, with an explanation and room to ask about it.

What is in each paper

The sections have kept almost the same size since 2023. Biology and Chemistry make up more than half of every paper:

How to practise with past papers

  • Sit it in exam conditions. Print the PDF, set a 100-minute timer and answer without notes.
  • Mark it like the real exam. 1.5 points for a correct answer, minus 0.4 for a wrong one, 0 for a blank. Compare your total with the cut-off scores by university.
  • Review every mistake. Use the answer key, then read the explanation of each question you got wrong or guessed.
  • Turn mistakes into practice. Each mistake points to a syllabus topic: practise that topic in the IMAT question bank before your next paper.

The earlier Italian admission tests

The Accesso Programmato papers (2007–2016) are the Italian-language admission tests for medicine. They are in Italian, but many of their science questions cover the same ground as the IMAT, so they make useful extra practice once you have done the IMAT papers.
