Which of the following statements about glycolysis is correct?
A) In the first part, FADH₂ is formed.
B) Phosphofructokinase catalyses the conversion of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate.
C) When a molecule of glucose is converted to pyruvate in glycolysis, CO₂ is produced.
D) When a molecule of glucose is converted to pyruvate in glycolysis, 2 NAD⁺ are reduced.
E) Triose phosphate isomerase catalyses the conversion of dihydroxyacetone phosphate to 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate.

The correct answer is D) When a molecule of glucose is converted to pyruvate in glycolysis, 2 NAD⁺ are reduced.
Glycolysis turns 2 NAD⁺ into 2 NADH per glucose, at the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase step.
Each of the other options gets one thing wrong. FADH₂ comes from the Krebs cycle. Splitting fructose-1,6-bisphosphate is aldolase, not phosphofructokinase. Glycolysis releases no CO₂. And triose phosphate isomerase turns DHAP into glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, not into 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate.
