Each acetyl-CoA molecule that enters the Krebs cycle produces:
A) 2 NADH, 2 FADH₂, 2 GTP and 2 molecules of CO₂
B) 3 NADH, 1 FADH₂, 2 GTP and 3 molecules of CO₂
C) 3 NADH, 1 FADH₂, 1 GTP and 3 molecules of CO₂
D) 1 NADH, 3 FADH₂, 1 GTP and 2 molecules of CO₂
E) 3 NADH, 1 FADH₂, 1 GTP and 2 molecules of CO₂

Q12 - The Krebs cycle
Pinned
The correct answer is E) 3 NADH, 1 FADH₂, 1 GTP and 2 molecules of CO₂.
One turn of the Krebs cycle (one acetyl-CoA) gives 3 NADH, 1 FADH₂, 1 GTP and 2 CO₂.
The options with 3 CO₂ are adding in the CO₂ from the link reaction (pyruvate → acetyl-CoA), which happens before the cycle. Also remember that one glucose gives two acetyl-CoA, so everything doubles per glucose.
