Lysosomes are organelles:
A) that form by budding from the smooth endoplasmic reticulum
B) that form by budding from the Golgi apparatus
C) whose malfunction is currently not believed to be associated with diseases
D) equipped with enzymes that function optimally at a pH above 7
E) responsible for the synthesis of proteins destined for secretion

Q27 - The endomembrane system and protein sorting
Pinned
The correct answer is B) that form by budding from the Golgi apparatus.
Lysosomes bud off from the Golgi. Their enzymes are made on the rough ER, modified in the Golgi and packed into vesicles that become lysosomes.
Their enzymes work in acid, at around pH 5, not above 7. And when lysosomes don't work properly you get lysosomal storage diseases such as Tay–Sachs, so C is wrong too.
