Q35 - Oxidation number
Pinned
The correct answer is A) an irrational number.
Oxidation numbers can be positive, negative or zero, and average oxidation numbers can even be fractions (iron in Fe₃O₄ is +8/3, sulfur in tetrathionate is +2.5).
They're always built from whole numbers of electrons, though, so they can never be irrational, like √2 or π.
