A pure covalent bond is a bond that forms between:
A) two atoms of the same element
B) two atoms with very different electronegativity
C) two atoms with quite similar electronegativity
D) two atoms with no electronegativity
E) two identical ions

Q38 - Polarity and electronegativity
Pinned
The correct answer is A) two atoms of the same element.
A pure covalent bond means the electrons are shared exactly equally. That only happens when both atoms have the same electronegativity, which means two atoms of the same element: H–H, Cl–Cl, O=O.
Similar electronegativities (C) give a polar covalent bond, and very different ones give an ionic bond.
