Q40 - Hydrolysis

What is the pH of a 0.7 M aqueous solution of KBr? A) 10⁻⁰·⁷ B) 10⁻⁷ C) 0.7 D) 7 E) 13.3
Pinned

The correct answer is D) 7.

KBr comes from a strong acid (HBr) and a strong base (KOH), so neither ion reacts with water. The solution stays neutral, pH 7, whatever the concentration.

10⁻⁷ is the H⁺ concentration in neutral water, not the pH itself, so B mixes up the two.
